Young People Taking Action for a Greener Future
From 17 to 24 May 2026, young people from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Türkiye and Romania came together in Marianka, Slovakia, for the Erasmus+ youth project GreenGo. Hosted by Student Era o.z., the project brought together 40 young participants and group leaders to explore environmental challenges, sustainability and the role young people can play in protecting our planet.

🌍 Learning to Go Green Together
Climate protection is one of the major challenges affecting our quality of life and the future of our communities. GreenGo was designed to help young people better understand these challenges and discover how the European Union, countries, organisations and individuals can contribute to a more sustainable future.
The project placed young people at the centre of the discussion, encouraging them to develop climate awareness and pro-ecological thinking while exploring practical ways to make more sustainable choices in everyday life.
But GreenGo was not only about the environment. It was also about people, cooperation and learning from each other. Through international teamwork and non-formal education, participants strengthened skills such as planning, teamwork, creativity and digital communication. At the same time, the exchange encouraged inclusion, intercultural tolerance and the creation of new friendships across borders.
💚 From Ideas to Action
Throughout the programme, participants explored sustainability through interactive activities, creative challenges and group work. The programme combined learning with energisers, discussions and practical activities, making environmental topics accessible and engaging.
Participants had opportunities to explore topics such as:
- 🌱 Green thinking and sustainable lifestyles
- ♻️ Recycling, upcycling and responsible consumption
- 🌍 Climate protection and environmental responsibility
- 💡 Creative approaches to environmental education
- 🏘️ Sustainable communities and green ideas
- 📱 Digital communication and dissemination
- 🇪🇺 European environmental policies
- 🤝 International cooperation and intercultural learning
The programme also encouraged participants to think about how environmental issues can be communicated creatively and how young people can inspire others to take action.
🎨 Creativity Meets Sustainability
One of the strengths of GreenGo was its combination of environmental education and creativity. Participants were encouraged not simply to learn about sustainability, but to transform their ideas into visual and digital outputs.
Graphics, videos and social media content helped participants communicate the project's messages beyond the group itself. This created a multiplier effect, allowing knowledge and ideas developed during the exchange to reach local communities and wider audiences.
The project therefore aimed not only to educate participants, but also to encourage public engagement with sustainability topics and stimulate interest in Erasmus+ opportunities.
🏡 GreenGo in Marianka
The exchange took place in Marianka, a picturesque location in the Small Carpathians, only around 20 minutes from Bratislava. The natural surroundings offered an excellent setting for a project focused on environmental awareness.
Marianka provides opportunities for hiking, relaxation and discovering local cultural and natural sites. Participants could also explore places such as the Lourdes Cave and the Basilica of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, while Bratislava was easily accessible by public transport.
The group stayed at Villa Ivica, a family-run 3-star hotel in the heart of Marianka, where accommodation and meals were provided throughout the project.
🌱 The Impact Continues Beyond the Exchange
GreenGo was designed to create an impact that would continue after participants returned home. Participants gained new environmental knowledge and learned about good practices in ecological activities and European environmental policies.
The project also focused strongly on dissemination. Participants and partner organisations were encouraged to share the results through social media and other communication channels, helping bring environmental topics into their own communities.
In this way, the project aimed to create a chain reaction:
Learn → Create → Share → Inspire → Act
Every participant became not only a learner, but also a potential ambassador for more sustainable behaviour.
🇪🇺 Erasmus+ as a Tool for Change
GreenGo demonstrated how Erasmus+ youth exchanges can connect environmental education, intercultural learning and active participation.
Young people from five countries had the opportunity to learn together, exchange perspectives and discover that sustainability is not only a responsibility of governments and institutions. Individual choices, local communities and young people's initiatives can also contribute to meaningful change.
At the end of the project, participants received a YouthPass, recognising the learning and competences gained during their Erasmus+ experience.
🌍 One Project, Many Green Ideas
GreenGo was more than a week dedicated to talking about climate change. It was a space where young people could question existing habits, share ideas, experiment with creative solutions and learn from different European perspectives.
The project showed that going green does not have to mean making huge changes overnight. Sometimes, meaningful change starts with a conversation, a new idea, a small everyday decision—or simply inspiring another person to think differently.
GreenGo brought young people together to learn, create and take action for a greener future. And the green journey does not end when the exchange is over—it continues in the communities, organisations and lives of everyone who took part.
